Everything you need to know about your Nordvalt air bed

From first charge to long-term care — a clear, complete guide to getting the best from your setup, wherever you camp.

01 — Pump

Before your first trip

Your Nordvalt electric pump ships at 50% battery capacity by default. Charge it fully before heading out — once it’s topped up, you’re ready to go.

First use

Charge to 100% before the first use. Avoid charging and inflating simultaneously.

Battery health

Don’t let it drain completely. Top up while some charge remains — it lasts significantly longer this way.

Watch the pressure

Stop inflating once you reach the recommended level. Over-inflation can damage the internal structure.

Continuous use

Inflate in intervals for longer sessions. If the pump feels warm, pause and let it cool first.

Keep it dry

No rain, moisture, or extended sun exposure. Store in a cool, dry place when not in use.

Long-term storage

Store at around 50% charge and top up every 2–3 months to protect the battery cells.

02 — Safety

Important precautions

A few things to keep in mind to protect both the bed and the people using it.

Cold weather — read this first

In cold climates, let the product sit indoors at room temperature for at least 8 hours before unpacking. Cold PVC is brittle — unfolding it immediately risks cracking. Do not unpack and use straight away.

Keep away from sharp objects, knives, and rough edges near the surface.
Keep away from open flames and high heat. Do not leave in direct sunlight for extended periods. Recommended use above 10°C (50°F).
This is a sleeping surface only — do not use as a flotation device.
Do not leave a fully inflated bed inside a sun-exposed tent or car — trapped heat expands the air inside and can cause damage.
When the pump is charging, ensure both the pump and the bed are completely dry before connecting.
When not using the pump, remove it and store separately in a dry indoor environment.
03 — Setup

Getting started with your new bed

1

First inflation: give it time to settle

After inflating for the first time, let the bed rest for 8–12 hours before sleeping on it. The internal straps and seams need time to adjust. For the first two days, avoid inflating to maximum capacity.

2

Slight softening is completely normal

Once fully inflated, the bed may feel a little softer as the PVC material naturally expands. Simply re-inflate to your preferred firmness. Don’t over-inflate to compensate.

3

One person vs. two

One person: inflate fully. Two people: release a little air and find a comfortable middle ground. Keep thermal changes in mind — air expands in heat and contracts in cold.

4

Temperature affects firmness

When it cools down, the bed will feel softer — just top it up with a little air. Gradual air loss over time is entirely normal (even car tires do this). Periodic top-ups are part of regular use.

5

Never over-inflate when topping up

Overfilling puts stress on the internal straps, which can snap and cause the surface to permanently bulge. This kind of damage cannot be repaired — always stay within the recommended pressure range.

04 — FAQ

Why is it getting softer?

What looks like an air leak is almost always one of the following — all completely normal, especially during the first few days of use.

New bed — internal straps are still stretching
Brand-new air beds have honeycomb internal straps in their natural stretch phase. This is expected and settles after the first few uses.
Weight stretches the material further
The more weight on the bed, the more the internal structure stretches. For the first 2–4 days, top up the air as needed until it stabilizes under load.
Dual safety valves are fitted as standard
Every Nordvalt air bed includes double air-lock valves to minimize air loss. If softening persists, check that both valves are properly sealed.
Over-inflation — especially in summer heat
Too much air, particularly in warm weather, can rupture internal straps and cause the surface to bulge. Always inflate to a comfortable firmness, not maximum pressure.

About dimensions: Due to PVC’s natural elasticity, a new Nordvalt air bed may measure 6–10 cm smaller than the listed size. This is normal — the material expands to the advertised dimensions with regular use. There’s also a 1–3 cm margin from hand measurement. This is not a defect.
